Did you know that Twinkl is not only for teachers? It has its own expanding, dedicated SEND Parent area to support you and your child.
Our Parents Team at Twinkl focuses on supporting parents with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Special Needs Jungle have kindly allowed me to share some top resources to support you this Christmas, including parent guides, visual aids and activities to help keep your child engaged during this exciting yet unpredictable time of year.
Top 6 SEND Resources for the Festive Period
We’ve gathered together the six top resources for SEND parents to support their children during the Christmas holidays, and they’re all free for you to access until 10pm, 22nd December, so get downloading!
1. Visual Supports for Routine and Structure
We all know that December can be an exciting time for children with SEND. However, its routines can change, causing anxiety for some children. Visual supports are an excellent tool to show your child what is happening and to help reduce their anxieties. This one is perfect for the Christmas period.

2. Sensory Activities
This Sensory Christmas Pack is ideal for your child if they have sensory processing differences, or to simply enjoy sensory activities. It offers a wonderful opportunity to explore a range of media and materials at home, from creating delightful handprint crafts to engaging with beautifully scented sensory modelling dough.

3. Quiet Time Pack
Everyone needs quiet time at Christmas – it is a busy time and can cause overwhelm and overstimulation for some children with SEND. This pack contains craft suggestions, puzzles and activities your child can do when they need some downtime this festive season.

4. Parent Guide
This parent guide is a helpful resource, offering tips to make Christmas calmer for everyone. It covers routines, shopping, decorations, socialising and gift-giving for this time of year.
You can also find broader support on Twinkl’s SEND Parent Guidance page, where you’ll discover seasonal resources covering social situations, helpful hints and tips, and a range of useful parent guides. Whether you need assistance with your child’s communication skills, a step-by-step breakdown of the EHCPNA application process, or guidance on supporting a specific need, this is the place to go.

5. Christmas Structured Steps Maths Resources
To support your child’s maths skills over the festive period, try our SEND Christmas Structured Steps Maths activity. These Structured Steps resources promote independent learning and feature a clear structure with symbols, making them ideal for children with SEND.

6. Christmas Eve Social Situation
Is your child a little unsure or worried about what happens on Christmas Eve? This editable social situation explains what might happen on the day and offers ideas to help reduce anxiety around different parts of the day.

More Activities from Twinkl— including older children
My own children are certainly wishing the time away, especially as the school term ends. Sometimes, you simply need a moment to get a job done, and Twinkl is here to help.
We offer a variety of activities, from festive Christmas colouring sheets to more structured English and Maths resources. Your child will also love engaging with familiar characters from our Partnership collection, including Disney, Minecraft, Harry Potter and Peppa Pig.
We also haven’t forgotten about older children. We understand that learners of different ages and abilities require suitable activities, and we have dedicated resources for them. For example, this Older Learners Christmas Blank Levels activity is aimed at older students who are accessing the primary curriculum.
And who can resist a colouring sheet? They are excellent for keeping busy and supporting mindfulness. Check out our range of Christmas Colouring packs.
To help with communication skills, our Symbols team has created several symbolised Christmas activities. For instance, this symbolised Letter to Santa offers an alternative way for children to communicate their wishes. Additionally, these Christmas Card Inserts can make writing Christmas cards simpler for some children.
Twinkl also offers a comprehensive area dedicated to supporting parents who are home educating their children. This Twinkl Home Ed Facebook Group provides a wealth of resources, planning support and fun activities, making it an invaluable tool for families who are home educating.
Digital Activities
Twinkl offers a variety of online support and activities to make screen time guilt-free this time of year, whether your child enjoys online games, reading or screen-based communication. Twinkl’s range of apps and games is designed to assist you.
One such tool is Twinkl Symbols, which is dedicated to making ‘everyday communication accessible.’ It is a perfect resource for home use to support communication, offering ready-made resources, a web tool for creating your own and a mobile app.

Free Festive Treat
Don’t forget, our free resources are time-limited, so download them as soon as you can—you can find our top six resources within these free packs to support you! Simply ensure you create or sign into a free account to download them. These resources will be available from Friday 5th December to Monday 22nd December.
